Dr. Ferenc Tompai
He wanted to be a veterinarian as a child, but during his high school years he became more and more aware that he wanted to be a doctor. He was drawn to manual work from childhood.
"I've been disassembling and reassembling everything I could, from a very young age."
He studied medicine at the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Szeged. During his university studies he spent 5 months as a scholarship holder at the Medical University of Göttingen in Germany. He passed his specialist examinations in orthopaedics and traumatology with excellent results.
"I worked at the National Institute of Traumatology for almost 7 years and also participated in the training of Hungarian and English medical students at the Department of Traumatology at Semmelweis University.
He implants more than 100 large joint (hip, knee, shoulder) prostheses per year. He also performs a large number of arthroscopic knee and shoulder procedures.
"In addition to various musculoskeletal diseases, my narrowest professional interests are in the treatment of specific shoulder and knee joint diseases and injuries. I had the opportunity to study the former under one of Hungary's most renowned shoulder surgeons."
His love for trauma surgery (traumatology) leads him to run trauma on-call several times a month.
