From the operating room to the pulpit

2016-03-30
Thanks to the quick "change of parts", the engine of the Reformed church in Pesterzsébet is running at full speed again: Tamás Takaró attended church services six days after his hip replacement surgery, a week later he was walking with a cane, and in the third week he was again standing in the pulpit without help, to the great surprise of the congregation and for your pleasure!
From the operating room to the pulpit

Unstoppable energy - stop commanding joints

In recent years, the pastor has undergone several serious surgeries: twice on his knees and once on his heart. Despite this, he continues his usual, active lifestyle, which is largely filled by the daily work of a pastor. In addition to his church in Pesterzsébet, he also performs many other tasks, travels a lot in the Carpathian basin and within the country as part of various foreign and domestic services.

Those who know him know: he has always been like this. He played sports regularly until he was 57 years old, and was even considered a really talented soccer player. So it's no wonder that while the desire to do something remained unbroken, his hip joint was "worn out". He felt that something had to be done. After visiting quite a few hospitals, he arrived at the Duna Medical Center, where orthopedic surgeon Dr. Zsolt Hegedűs became his doctor.

Considered progress

Before the hip replacement surgery, he attended several consultations with his doctor. Dr. Hegedűs and his anesthesiologist colleague informed him in detail together, and he participated in all mandatory preliminary examinations, including MRSA screening, which was not prescribed for him in other hospitals. There were no questions left, so the decision was made - it's time for surgery.

Roll call in the operating room

The chaplain cheerfully recalls the roll call before the operation in the operating room, to which he added his own: "the patient is present", and then the checklist that followed: "I knew that nothing was missing". The operation lasted for an hour, after which he was transferred to the sub-intensive department of the Duna Medical Center for observation.

Strange rituals

On the second day of the four-day "forced rest" in the hospital, the unstoppable priest, who already tried to walk on the first day, was treated by a physiotherapist. He also observed an interesting ritual: his doctor thoroughly disinfected his hands every time he examined him or entered the room, with the utmost naturalness. But the pastor also became the "author" of unforgettable memories: our colleagues still mention his humor, optimism and personal charm.

Stunned congregation

On the fourth day after the operation, he was already resting at home, and when he walked into the church on the sixth day after the operation - even with the help of his wife - he managed to surprise his congregation as well. In the following days, the walking frame was also out of use and he walked with a cane, and in the third week he spoke to the congregation from the pulpit. After that, he returned to active duty and is currently walking without pain and without a cane, 6 weeks after the operation. "Static long standing still does not do you any good", it is more difficult to stand for more than an hour, so the sermons have become a little shorter. But Tamás Takaró doesn't mind this at all, since "that way you get more time to talk and take care of your soul."
