We commemorated the 500th gastric bypass surgery performed at the Duna Medical Center in the rest room of the operating block on the 7th floor of our hospital. Executive director Anita Gurney thanked the operating room staff and the inpatient care department for the teamwork that made this significant achievement possible, and congratulated Dr. To our bariatric surgeon Péter Vasas, who performed 400 of the 500 operations.
"The fact that the 500 operations were carried out without any major complications is a serious result, even in international terms. Weight loss operations are primarily not of aesthetic significance. The weight loss achieved as a result of the operation results in a serious, sometimes life-changing improvement in the patients' health and quality of life: their diabetes improves significantly and they stop their associated diseases caused by being overweight. Patients who undergo surgery lose 40-50, sometimes up to 80 kg. It can be calculated from this that as a result of the 500 surgeries, our patients got rid of a total of approximately 25 tons of excess weight." - said at the event dr. Peter Vasas.
