Weight loss with gastric balloon - THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE!

Take action now and lose up to 15-50 kilograms!

Discounted price of HUF 890,000 for 1-year gastric balloon implants performed at the Duna Medical Center between February 17 and May 17, 2020.

What happens during the procedure?

The essence of the procedure is that a balloon is inserted into the stomach, which prevents the intake of larger amounts of food by reducing the capacity of the stomach, thus providing a feeling of fullness. Thanks to this, the patient can more easily adhere to the diet prescribed by the specialists and achieve the desired weight loss. In addition to following the diet, you can increase the amount of expected weight loss with regular physical activity and "lifestyle changes".

How much weight loss can be achieved?

An average weight loss of 15-50 kg can be achieved in 12 months. The amount of weight loss varies from person to person.

For whom is gastric balloon implantation recommended?

Adults between the ages of 18 and 65 are suitable for the procedure, who have already tried several weight-loss alternatives without success, and whose BMI (body mass index) is between 30 and 40 kg/m2, i.e. I or II. suffer from severe obesity. An exception may be someone whose body mass index is 27 kg/m2, but who has co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

Those suffering from the following diseases are not suitable for the intervention:

  • Chron's disease,
  • colitis,
  • Liver failure
  • Some hematological diseases

as well as who

  • are pregnant or planning to become pregnant within a year,
  • drug and alcohol addicts,
  • psychiatric patients requiring medication.

Also, this method is not recommended in the case of certain drug treatments - our specialist will provide you with detailed information about this.

Preparation for balloon therapy - step by step

Before the intervention is performed, the patient must undergo a number of tests.

As a first step, sign up for an obesitological (anti-obesity) specialist consultation. This is necessary in order to rule out other causes of obesity and to find the most suitable method for losing weight. If diet and lifestyle changes are not effective, then balloon therapy can be performed in addition to lifestyle changes. If this does not bring the expected results and the patient's condition allows, some type of weight-loss surgery may be performed, but a lifestyle change is also essential here!

After the obesitological consultation, a dietitian deals with our patients. He teaches you about diet, how to count calories, and how to eat after the balloon is placed.

If balloon therapy is suitable for the patient, the next step is a gastroenterology consultation .

As the last step before the intervention, the anesthesiological consultation required for anesthesia and laboratory tests will be carried out.

How is the intervention performed?

The intervention is performed under anesthesia. As a first step, we perform a standard gastroscopic examination, which can shed light on previously undetected problems, such as esophageal varices or large hiatal hernias, which do not allow for balloon therapy. If there is no contraindication, the balloon is inserted. The examination usually takes 30 minutes and the patient can go home after a short, usually 2-hour observation.

If everything is in order, the balloon will remain in the patient's stomach for 12 months (if necessary, we can remove the balloon even earlier).

Possible complications

As in the case of all medical interventions, complications can also be expected during gastric balloon implantation. Since a foreign body enters the body, it can cause discomfort such as pain and nausea. In severe cases, the balloon may need to be removed from the stomach prematurely. The liquid used to fill the balloon is colored so that if it accidentally leaks, it will stain the urine blue. If you experience this, you should see a doctor urgently. If the balloon remains in the stomach longer than optimal, stomach acid can begin to erode it.
