Bypass tough boys and iron girls at the half marathon

2020-09-10
It has been proven: the gastric bypass really gave a new life.

Almost all of their stories begin like most overweight people: from an obese child to an overweight teenager and then to a morbidly obese adult. After trying all the fad diets - which, if they stopped, the pounds immediately came back - they asked for help to lose weight.

Although many people think that bypass surgery is just the shorter and easier way to lose weight, our patients last weekend proved that they can even run a half-marathon with a lot of endurance, work, vitality and their new bodies.

Due to the epidemiological situation that has been going on for months, the holding of the event was questionable, but our patients decided that on September 6, either at the competition or virtually, they will fulfill the set goal.

Alessandro underwent the most recent "bypass" surgery in January 2020, so his weight loss is far from over. He started a new life and has already successfully completed the - previously unimaginable - distance of 10 km!

Our patient, who had surgery 3 years ago, has already reached his competition weight and regularly runs half and full marathons. This time, he completed the nearly 22 km virtually, in Tiszakécské, in just 2 hours and 1 minute. Congratulations on your achievement!

Leila was also operated on by Dr. Péter Vasas in 2017 at the Duna Medical Center. He has completed countless half and "full" marathons, this time he finished in 2 hours and 31 minutes. Congratulations on your achievement!

Another "Iron girl", Rita, who also visited us in 2017 for gastric bypass surgery. Congratulations on completing 10 km!

Flórián started his first half-marathon 3 years after his surgery, and after a lot of preparation, he completed it in 2 hours and 14 minutes, for which we congratulate him!!

Of course, the team would not be complete without the Doctor, so here is his photo taken after the run. Dr. Péter Vasas did not only encourage with words, he also motivated his former patients by naming them himself. He believes that the surgery does not end, but just begins the preparation for a new life, an essential part of which is a change in lifestyle and regular exercise. Due to travel restrictions, he started virtually this year and completed the distance in 2 hours and 7 minutes. Congratulations on the excellent result!

DMC surgeon Dr. Péter Sipos started as a routine competitor, completed the race with a brilliant result within 2 hours, and then personally congratulated Flórián on his result!

On behalf of the management of the Duna Medical Center, managing director Anita Gurney participated in the virtual competition, running 7.1 km to show that it is easy to get in shape with regular preparation and practice.

By running the half-marathon - and with the help of the photos above - we want to inspire our current and future patients, and we intended participation in the event to create a tradition. We hope that after the above, more and more people will be motivated to exercise regularly, and next year we will run together with even more of our patients (and of course their family members as well) in the "LIFE 2.0" team, to which we invite everyone this time. The preparation for the bypass run in 2021 has thus started...
